Hobo International History
Everything you ever wanted to know about Hobo International
Hobo International is still one of the younger companies in the designer front. The company started in 1991 in Annapolis, Maryland where it was founded by Toni Ray, a major designer in leather products. Toni's big selling point with her bags was that she was a woman making products women wanted. After pitching her designs to a client, her beliefs proved correct as her designs took the world by storm.
Hobo International works on the belief that their bags offer something different from everyone else out there. While the bags are stylish, they also put an emphasis on being practical. The Hobo International bags are not something that is only brought out for big events or nights out on the town with the girls. Instead, the bags were designed to be useful and effective no matter what a woman was doing.
Toni Ray focused on improving the bags with logical pockets, zippers instead of most designers clips and open tops, and an interior that was effectively divided. No longer would a woman have to push around everything in her bag to find what she needed, it would be effectively organized.
Hobo International found its place in the world of luxury styles in 1999 when Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Fred Segal retail locations latched on and placed their own orders. The company moved on to Toni Ray's daughter and husband in 2006, but has kept its strong designs and powerful brand name. Only twenty years old, the company is quickly becoming one of the premier names in designer handbags.
